Occupational Therapist

About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise, which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, creative and flexible Occupational Therapist (OT) to join the Mental Health Reablement Team within the varied and redeveloping borough of Southwark. We offer person centred social care assessment and support through the framework of the Care Act 2014; our aim is to reduce, prevent and delay the need for long term support by empowering people to relearn skills and build upon strengths to become as independent as possible.

At recent OT networking events for OT staff already employed by Southwark, OTs reported valuing the strong OT representation across adult social care that is in place in Southwark, as well as enjoying the excellent training offer and multidisciplinary approaches that working in Southwark brings.

The Mental Health Reablement Team work with adults (18-65) who have a primary mental health diagnosis and who are not currently receiving a package of care. Service provision is time-limited, focusing on person-centred goals and assisting people to maximise their independence by means of practicing activities, coaching them to consider alternative ways of doing tasks and building on their strengths and abilities. We also promote and support engagement with the many third sector services and activities available in Southwark.

About You:

You will have experience of supporting adults with limitations caused by mental illness, and the ability to provide assessment, support planning and review under the Care Act 2014. You will have a knowledge of OT theory, specialist assessments and interventions and be able apply this within holistic, person-centred and strengths-based approaches to promoting service users’ independence.

You will have an understanding of the principles of Reablement, the wellbeing principles underpinning the Care Act 2014, strengths-based and rehabilitative practice.

If you enjoy working in a supportive and dynamic team with a complex and varied service user group, and are committed to anti-oppressive practice and to the empowerment of service users, then we would urge you to apply!

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Michael Crompton on 02075252751

Additional Information:

  • Full time, 36 hours per week Monday-Friday
  • Applicants must hold a recognised OT qualification and be registered with the HCPC
  • Enhanced DBS required
