Older People and Physical Disabilities Southwark Adult Social Care is comprised of a wide range of services. Teams include colleagues from a range of professional backgrounds including Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and non-professionally qualified staff. They work with adults with physical disability, older persons, adults with dementia and carers. This inter-professional approach allows the sharing of skills to ensure that professions work flexibly and constructively to support our residents and carers. We aim to deliver a high quality, safe, strength based service, promoting and improving independence, ensuring comprehensive person-centred assessments, reviews and interventions, supporting court work (where required) and ensuring residents are safeguarded enabling choice and control regarding their accommodation, care and support needs. The role

Southwark Council is recruiting a social work team manager for our front door older people and people with physical disabilities services in Southwark. This is an exciting role that requires a candidate with excellent skills in communication, organisation & creativity with proven experience in leadership to help to continue to develop a high quality service for Southwark residents.

We are highly ambitious to continue to continue to improve our front door offer and ensure people that use our services have the best possible service to promote their independence, self-resilience and well-being. The service supports adults with physical disabilities, sensory needs, dementia and people over the age of 65+; embodying a person centered and strengths based approach to enable all residents to reach their potential. The team is the first point of contact and provides a universal offer of support, information and advice. The team also provides an OT first response.

This post is responsible to the OPPD Service Manager, and you will manage a team of staff – OT’s, SW and non-registered colleagues – based at the Southwark Resource Centre in Walworth. The team is a collaborative team with our delivery partner Age UK.

The role will need to promote safe, innovative and creative approaches to meeting the needs of both service users and carers in line with best practice and quality assurance, alongside performance and budget management, and management oversight of resources and cases.

About you:

You will be a registered social worker and have experience of managing others within health and adult social care. You will have a genuine passion for the provision of high quality services for adults and demonstrate a commitment to strengths based ways of working.

You will have awareness of current Social Care legislation and social policy including safeguarding adults and understand the application of the principles of Equality and Diversity and its practice. 

You will be a practical thinker and have the ability to manage demand while keeping the person at the centre of our strategic vision. We are looking for an innovative and experienced leader with the drive, resilience and creativity to help lead a busy, fast-paced team within a high performing inner London borough.
