Evalyne : Adult Social Care Policy and Strategy Lead

When I joined Southwark six years ago as an agency social worker in the Mental Health Reablement Team, I had no idea that it would lead to an amazing career journey in Southwark Adult Social Care. Along the way, I have had the chance to work with different teams, face new challenges, and be inspired by incredible colleagues.

After sometime, I applied for a permanent role as a Senior Practitioner in the Assessment and Intake Team, where I focused on helping older people and people with physical disabilities. It was an opportunity to make a bigger impact and contribute to the well-being of our aging community.

I then took a leap and applied for the Deputy Manager position in the Mental Health Care and Support Team. It was a chance to learn more about mental health challenges and develop strategies to provide holistic care and support. Seeing the positive difference we made in the lives of our residents was incredibly rewarding.

Now, in my current role as the Adult Social Care Policy and Strategy Lead, I have the privilege of managing a team of Service Development Officers. Together, we work hard to identify the challenges faced by our frontline staff and come up with fresh ideas for lasting change. We are not just focused on our internal processes—we listen to our residents and make sure we provide the right support for their unique needs in the community.

I am so grateful for the support and mentorship I have received from my colleagues at Southwark. They have guided me on this incredible journey, encouraging me to pursue training and take on new responsibilities. Most recently, I completed the Prince2 practitioner course, which expanded my project management skills and knowledge.

Southwark has given me opportunities to grow by taking on acting and secondment roles for career development. They have also provided me with tailored training that has significantly enhanced my expertise.

Being part of a team that makes a positive difference in the lives of our residents fills me with pride. Working in such a dynamic and supportive environment, where collaboration and innovation are celebrated, is truly special.
