Karen’s career in Adult Social Care

Here in Adults Social Care we listen to people and know that we need to spend time to understand how they truly feel.

As Service Development Manager, my focus is to help adult social care as a department deliver on good outcomes for people because I know we can make a difference and that is what matters!

We can never make up for people living with vulnerabilities, but we can work on supporting greater independence and prevention of the increased need for care. We need to be mindful that small steps are good enough!

To do this, we need an adults social care workforce who feel truly valued, and know they can contribute in meaningful ways to support the most vulnerable in our society. I think this is more than words, I have heard staff tell me how proud they are about their work in Southwark.  As a qualified social worker, I am passionate about social work with people, and doing whatever I can to support improvements to quality of life for people.

I love working with people both in my career and personal life- they make a difference to our daily lives and make life worthwhile! At home, I love spending time with my daughter, who is currently travelling SE Asia, and with my wider family.

I am someone who likes to get things done, challenging myself and others. I love endurance sports and will be participating in a half Iron man/woman later this year.
